A Piece of Advice

When consturcting a wall and you have a 12-18 inch gap, do no fill it with 2x4s, this is not the correct way to build a wall

Also, if there is still an even smaller gap, do not fill it with a piece of drywall. This is not correct either

That wall has been sitting like that for the better part of 30 years! We could not believe it. It's one of the more moronic things the previous PREVIOUS owners did (Chris and I have decided that pretty much no one who owned this house previously had any idea what they were doing)

My dad came over yesterday to help us take out the wall in the laundry room and replace the back door. This is a job that needs a lot of hands because it's pretty labor intensive because the door is so large and heavy. So we only have a few more times of him coming over before he leaves for Boston :( so he made his way over to help us.

So we tore down the wall and built a supporting wall so we could frame the opening properly

Then we took out the old sliding glass door. The actual door was pretty easy, but the stationary piece of glass took a while. But we put our noggins together

and got it out

We had hoped to get the rough opening done yesterday, but you know how that goes....That's what we're working on TODAY. Hopefully this weekend we'll get that finished and the texture done on the walls in the kitchen. Later next week my dad will come again to hang the door and then the week after that my mom will come over to help paint the kitchen. Yea for family help! :)

We FINALLY decided on a wood stain. After 27 staining samples, we decided on...drumroll please....GUNSTOCK.

Chris and I both really like it, and I was surprised that my dad liked it when we showed him yesterday because he normally likes lighter stains. Three cheers for PROGRESS.
