The Tarps Held Up, Mostly

With the unexpected rain on Friday, the tarps came out. I thought it was supposed to be SUNNY skies for over a week, but I was wrong. So a few days ago we put up tarps to cover up the big, gaping hole in the back of the house.

(my, what a nice view out of those "windows")

They held up pretty well and almost no water got inside, except this small corner on the right

(this picture is supposed to be rotated, but for some reason it's uploading wrong, grrrr)

Yesterday inbetween the gym and work at the Warriors I worked a little on demoing the tile floor in the bathroom

I wish we could keep the original tile (we're trying to save as much of the original house as possible) but the subfloor is in REALLY bad shape, so a lot of it will need to be replaced, thus, all the tile needs to be ripped up.

I got out my friend, the roto hammer, put on some safety goggles, and got to work

This is what I mean by bad shape
Generally you're not supposed to see the ground beneath your house. So, after only getting a small portion done I stopped, realizing if the rest of the floor is as bad as this in patches there is no way we're going to be able to lug the original tub out of the room. We'll wait till someone (or two) can help us carry it out, and then I'll continue on the floor.

On a side note...Chris has been working at the Cal Alumni House for quite some time now, and he's recently been filling in for someone who got fired. He's in charge of fixing up the building when things go wrong, but now he also helps reserve, set up, and clear out the place for events they hold (for instance, my mom and Clarke got married there). They're in the process of hiring a replacement for the person who was fired, but the head guy at the Alumni House sent his boss, Donna, an email the other day saying they needed to cut $10,000 from their budget because of the CA budget cuts. Chris proposed having him take on a few more hours of work each week to cover the job that needed to be filled (which he was doing anyway) in exchange for him having 1 day off a week (so that he can work on the house) and ALSO getting benefits. Donna LOVED the idea and Phil (Mr. Boss Man) thought it was great too (and it ends up cutting MORE than $10,ooo). Donna had told Chris, "I'm just worried I won't be able to find someone as good as you," when they were looking for the events person. How could you NOT think Chris does an amazing job? I am SOOO proud of him! He'll be making more money, and he'll have BENEFITS! Something he hasn't had for nearly 4 years! (when he left Tower). So good job Chris!
