I decided in the summer time this year what I was going to get Chris for Christmas (I have been known to buy/plan gifts for people MONTHS in advance). I found out about this awesome
website that lets you design and make your own book (and they're great quality too).
So I thought it would be a great idea to make a book of the first year of living on Picardy and all the fun projects and adventures we've had. The only catch, we closed on the house 12/30/08, so that meant I was going to compile it till 12/30/09....5 days after Christmas. And then it had to get made and mailed...so he was going to get his present about 2 weeks after Christmas :( I told him early that one of his presents was going to be coming a lot later, and Chris of course said it was no big deal. Whew!
So I slaved away for many enjoyable hours and created a 160 page book (that is actually for
sale on Blurb.com) organized room by room of all of our projects and housework and narrarated all along the way by this blog and Chris' website. I had SO much fun making it, and yesterday it finally came in the mail!

And so last night when I got home from the Warriors I gave Chris his last Christmas present

YAY!!!!! :) I'm planning on making him one each year for Christmas (so he already knows what one of his presents will be for the next 4 years, oh well!) I think it will be so much fun to look at and share in 5, 10, 20 years...well, and they're fun now too! :) But it will be nice later on down the line to see just how much we did, what we looked like, and what we were thinking about all of it (I really like that I did the writing from our blogs/websites along the way). A successful priceless momento, you really can't get much better than that. AND, I already know what Vol. 2 will be called! :)

I TOTALLY want to make our family blog/ journal into a book. Who did you use to print? Was it easy? $$? Fill me in :D
Hey Jackie! I used Blurb.com. It is WAY easy, but it did take me a long time because I picked and chose exactly what text from both of our webpages I wanted. I'm pretty sure they have a program that just allows you to upload your whole blog into a book template that makes it WAY easier (and a LOT less time consuming than what I did).
They have LOTS of templates, lots of books sizes, and lots of pricing. Mine was a mid-sized book (in terms of actual dimensions of the book, they have small ones and larger ones), it was 160 pages, I didn't use a dust-jacket (that would have made it cheaper) and I used premium paper, so all those things made my cost go up ($75). They have REALLY good prices if you make things more simple and smaller though (like a 5x8 black and white text book with 440 pages is only $15).
Hope this helps, happy blurbing! :)
