A Backyard Flower Garden

Now that the garage is DONE! (more on that later), we've been trying to do small projects around the house until we can get help to move the nearly 500 lb. tub from the bathroom so we can begin the full bathroom gut and renovation.

We were wandering around and cleaning the backyard last week when we decided, "hey, let's make a flower garden." We had planned on tackling this project when we do the back and front yard landscaping next year, but figured, what the hell, let's just do it now

First, we started by scraping away the border for where we'd lay the bricks (defining the garden area)

After we had our borden nicely defined and had scraped away the top layer of grass...

...we went to Home Depot to get a bunch of bricks and started laying them in a nice diagonal pattern

Then we laid some filter fabric down to help protect from weeds popping up

(we put a border around the tree because we planted the base of the tree a bit low and we didn't want to have dirt right up against it and rot it)

Once the fabric was laid we went BACK to Home Depot to get some more bricks to border the back of the bed (we realized the dirt was going to be a bit higher than we anticipated)

Now, with all of our borders done, it was time to fill it in with some dirt (and we still have TONS leftover from all of our recent backyard projects, despite posting and posting and posting FREE DIRT on craigslist)

Once our dirt was in, it was time to plant our flowers (we got lavender, yellow poppies, and some light purple flower that I can't remember the name of from Flowerland). We made sure to cut a hole in the filter fabric where we were planting so that the roots had plenty of room to grow

And then, after some planting and mulching, our backyard flower garden was COMPLETE! And looking mighty pretty

We were some of the lucky witnesses yesterday to all of your most recent improvements -- garage, garden, and the toasty heating system. AWESOME!!

You have a very nice garden. Wish if I could create the same in my backyard.
