Starting the Wall Tile

After our super yummy breakfast with Clarke the morning of my birthday, we came home and got started on the endless amount of wall tile in the bathroom

We mixed up the thinset and got to slapping those suckers on

It was a LONG process. By the end of the day we'd worked out a pretty good system: I would spread out the thinset ahead of Chris, and back butter the tiles. Chris would lay the tile and wiggle it all around within an inch of it's life till we knew it was level, on an even plane with the existing tiles, and it made a good adhesion. I would also go back and clean up the stray thinset above the tiles that squirted out and always made sure we had clean sponges.

At certain times I laid tile along with Chris (like when the tile all the way to the right was taking Chris a while - that was the tile that was hanging out over the tub without any tile below to help support it - I laid it in the area against the other side of the wall). But we generally found the first system of me prepping and cleaning along the way helped us work faster.

We found out that we can't use our tile saw to cut the glass tile, grrrr

The blade chips the hell out of the tile, so we need to get a new blade. For now, the corners where fractions of tiles need to be are empty, so we'll fill those in later.

We were able to work for about 4 hours before my dad and Wendy came over. In that time we laid 70 tiles

That means we laid about 17.5 tiles an hour. Our guess (though we can't exactly remember) is that we have 120 sq. ft. to lay, so that means we'll be spending approximately 55 hours laying tile. Which is what we'll be doing all day today after we go on our morning run.
