A weekend or two ago Chris did something wonderful: he finished the electrical in the house
He installed this last outlet underneath the CDs in the laundry room. By code every 6ft of wall length should have an outlet, and this one didn't, so he put one there. And when that outlet was finished, that meant alllll the electrical in the house was DONE! There was one room that had proper wiring when we moved in, but other than that Chris has rewired the ENTIRE house himself - taking out the knob and tube, fixing things that were wrong and making sure out house didn't burn down. That man is useful :)
With the wiring done, that meant we could finally finish the last little bit of wall in the kitchen. What is that you ask? Well, way back 3 years ago when we finished the kitchen there was actually this little corner that was still open
We left that part of the wall open so that it would make all the rewiring that still had to be done a lot easier on ourselves. Having the wall exposed made fishing wires down much less of a headache. We've been staring at an open wall there for 4 1/2 years. But now, it is open no more!
It got drywalled
Then the tape and mud went on
Then the texture got applied
This is the first room we did texture in when we moved in, and we did knock down. It doesn't match the rest of the house and after we did the same thing in the laundry room we corrected it. However, this room has cabinets, backsplash, appliances, etc. and so correcting the texture to match the rest of the house would be a complete bitch. Both of us dislike that it's different, but sometimes you just gotta roll with it.
After that it got a coat of primer, 2 color coats and baseboard and then it was DONE
Far cry from this, no?
I have to admit, it looks completely weird having this wall finished. I've been walking by an open wall for 4 1/2 years and to no longer see all the wires coming down from the attic and insulation trickling down every once in a while is very strange. A finished wall is a beautiful thing. So is finished electrical :) Hooray!
