After Chris applied all the texture to the walls, it was time to get painting. Yay! Chris had the unfortunate task of priming and painting in the skylight nook
While Chris primed and painted in the skylight I did all the cut ins in the rest of the room. And Chris was of course super speedy and moved on to priming the ceiling
And then the walls got primed as well
It’s amazing how much the white of the primer brightened the room. After everything was primed Chris painted the ceiling (just flat, simple white)
Around that time I headed out to HD to pick up the paint for the room. Originally we had settled on a paint sample that I had tested out for the front room (waayyyyyy back when)
We liked the bright, purplish blue “Sparrow,” the bottom right color that we was tested for the front room but thought it was the perfect color for our bedroom instead. I had saved the little sample container for about 2 years intending on purchasing the paint at some point. I went out to the garage to grab it and shook it up really good. I opened it up and thought it looked really gray, much less bright blue than it looked on the wall. So I painted some on the top of the sample container and it still looked more gray. I shook and shook and shook again to make sure the pigment was really mixed around and did another little sample dab. Still really gray. I’m not really sure what happened (maybe I saved and labeled the wrong sample container?), but I was not fond of the gray for our bedroom. I really wanted a light blue. I didn’t want to spend too much time waffling between paint colors and Chris said “whatever” when it came to picking the color, so I grabbed a paint deck, riffled through it, held it up to the wall and settled on Ben Moore’s Beacon Gray (hilarious that I didn’t want gray but picked a “gray” color, though I think this does look much more blue)

I liked that it was bright, but not in your face, and still a bit neutral. I went to HD got the paint, came home and started the cut-ins
And Chris started rolling
Because the rug got ruined 🙁 the next task was getting a new one. My go to resource for for rugs is Rugsusa.com. They have a huge variety and are always offering a discount. NEVER pay full price. I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $300 for a rug, and we’ve gotten a couple big huge wool ones. I really loved our old rug

But we decided that if we were getting another one that we should get a bigger one. This rug always just felt a little too small. It didn’t start till several feet into the room and because we have a king bed it only just peeks out from in front of it. You really don’t get to see any of the pattern. They didn’t have a larger size of the rug, so I trolled rugsusa.com for a new one. We wanted it to be 7-8′ wide and 9-10′ long. I searched and searched and wanted one with a little more color variation this time instead of blue (too much blue with the wall color too) and I finally settled on this one with Chris approval

The rug was 7’6″ x 9’6″ which will fill the room very nicely. It’s normally $534, but they were running a 60% sale over Easter and after taxes and that fun stuff it clocked in at $295. Again, not bad for a giant wool rug. It is of course more expensive than the $205 rug that was originally in there that got ruined 🙁 But it’s still not a bad price.
We’re still waiting on it to arrive and I’m really excited to see how it looks with the paint on the wall. Next up, trimming our 2 doors and closet, painting the trim, painting the second coat on the walls, and painting the other side of our pocket door. Lots of painting, but nothing we can’t handle.
