The other day I was examining our 2013 house goals list. I was looking at the list trying to figure out what project I could help work on while being nearly 8 months pregnant. I’ve got several part time jobs and do most of my work from home (with the major exception of baseball season), so I can usually fit in an hour of work here and there during the week. I want to make sure I stay productive and get as much done on the house as possible before Miss Cashew comes and I landed on the ridiculous project of working on our bedroom 🙂 Of course this project is not on our list of things we wanted to get done before baby arrives, but it’s also something I can pretty easily still work on while getting largely pregnant.
I walked into the laundry room where Chris was cleaning some sponges and I asked, “You can totally say no, but what would you say about me painting the bedroom before Cashew comes?” He thought about it for a second, and said, “Ok!” But before I can get to painting, there are a couple things that have to get done, and the first I needed Chris for. Luckily it only took about 45 minutes 🙂 First thing, removing the crown molding
We’d already removed the baseboards when we got the floors refinished and because neither the baseboards nor the crown match the trim in the rest of the house, they were coming down. It’s not too hard of a job, but Chris is better at it and jerking around on a ladder while 32 weeks pregnant isn’t such a good idea. He moved around the room and got it done in about 5 minutes
Next up, patching the drywall around our pocket door
Now, it’s time for me to get to work. Not painting yet: just skim coating. Why skim coating? Well, the texture in here is a spray on, knockdown texture and it doesn’t match the original plaster texture. Since we’ve gotten so good at skim coating because we’ve done it so many times, it shouldn’t take too long or be too annoying. Chris will work on 2 or 3 small patches and I’ll skim coat all the walls and Chris will do the ceiling. The skylight alcove needs a bit of work and because that will involve getting on a tall ladder which isn’t pregnancy friendly, Chris will work on that too. Once I’m done with the skim coating, Chris will apply all the texture (something he’s gotten really good at), and then I’ll paint!
Yes, it’s totally ridiculous and stupid to take on another project when Cashew’s arrival is less than 2 months away, but I figure, if we don’t paint it now, it’ll have to wait at least 6 months because we won’t want to be working on this room while she’s sleeping in here as a wee little one. 3 cheers for ridiculousness! 🙂

It is not stupid or ridiculous to try to get as much done as possible before your life turns upside down. You are being wise and choosing projects you can actually help in and that can be done before her arrival. Keep it up!

I love you guys. And I believe what you are experiencing is not any "aholic" thing. In the old days, we used to call it "nesting." You are getting your nest ready. Good job, mamacita!!
