The Tile is Done!

December 6, 2010

Holy crap oh my god woo-hoo the tile is FINISHED! After hours and hours and hours (40.5 to be exact 😉 you know I counted alllll along the way) we got it DONE.

Saturday afternoon (after some early morning painting at my brother’s by me) we got to this corner

And this corner too

So after getting all the thinset ready, tile out, and game faces on, we got to work

I was a cutting machine. The tile saw and I have become well acquainted with one another throughout all this tiling. With all the tiles at the bottom of the wall behind the tub, at the top of the wall above the tub and on the sides I spent a LONG time outside cutting. Even though we have a glass blade on the saw it takes FOREVER to cut the tiles because you have to be very slow or else the blade and tile get too hot and it all of a sudden makes the tile glow orange with heat and it splits.

Near the end of the night Chris and I were getting a little delusional – being SO TIRED of tiling and just annoyed with the end of the day and a neighborhood party to get to. But, alas, we got it done! (thank the lord, I don’t know how much more tiling I could take)

Yay!!!!

And now, for the FINAL tile stats: we tiled for 5 hours on Saturday to bring the GRAND total to 40.5 hours of tiling the walls in the bathroom. We got 128 tiles up for an average of about 25.5 tiles an hour which is friggin’ AWESOME considering all the cutting and standing on the tub that was done to get us there. Now, just how many tiles are on the wall? 951. 951 tiles we tossed on the wall one by one. Ughhhhhh. Remind me when we redo the back bathroom NOT to tile all the walls…

*swoon* Love it! I love the marble, vintage tub, glass tile, and modern black edge combination. 951 tiles wow that is more than I would have guessed!

I know, it's crazy. I asked Chris when he got home that night after I'd counted them all how many he thought were one the walls and his first guess was in the 500s. WAY off 🙂

yeah, but my 5th guess was exactly right so that's pretty good. it wasn't that bad and the other bathroom is small. we could just use the leftovers in there…

That is true Mr. Christopher, your last one was spot on. Good idea about leftovers, but doesn't a new bathroom means new color schemes? 🙂

Oh, hello there. We're Chris and Meryl and we're renovating home in Oakland, CA. Chris is the handy, knowledgeable builder and I'm his slightly inappropriate assistant. We've got 2 helpers - Zoe is 2 and Merritt arrived in June of 2015. Spurred by our love of renovating our own home we started a handyman, design and organizing business and now that we're both self employed we're busier than ever, but we love it!
