Thank you everyone for all your kind words regarding the birth of Miss Merritt! We’re definitely still making lots of adjustments – feeding, naps, dropping/picking up Zoe, sleeping at night, playing with Zoe – it’s been a full time job adjusting to a new one in the house. But she’s a great little baby, and super adorable of course, so that makes it easier. And it certainly helps that Zoe LOVES her baby sister
Okay, but now on to some house stuff, and….hooray! The office is painted! No more electric green! I’ve mentioned it before: I love BRIGHT green in my favorite sports teams, but not so much on the walls in my house. You may remember that in April I painted the built in nooks where we keep all of our books
I had a list for myself of about 20-30 tasks I wanted to try and complete the last 3-4 months of pregnancy, and getting this room painted was one of them. And although I’m finally writing this post AFTER the baby came, we did get it painted before, yay!
Before I got to painting though we had one last patch from an old outlet that needed to be fixed. Chris worked on it one night
And naturally Zoe decided she had to come help
That kid is cute. And I love that as soon as the tools come out she is ready to dive in.
After Chris (and Zoe) patched that last hole and Chris retextured it, it was finally time to get painting.
The crappy thing about painting this room was that holy fucking shit there were SO MANY cut ins. There are 4 doors, 3 windows, 2 built in bookcases and a fucking curved fireplace. I was really, really not looking forward to those fucking cut ins. Can you tell? But, alas, that task needed to get done. So I buckled down while just about 39 weeks pregnant and boxed the paint, primed a couple of spots and got started
I was SUPER lazy with this paint job and didn’t even remove the curtain rods or wall sconces. I just wanted to get this DONE. So several CDs were played and I spent 1:45 painting allllllll the cut ins. Then I was going to get ready to do the roller coat only to discover that Chris had all the roller cage covers in his truck. Damnit! So I painted the second coat of cut ins instead. Cue another round of CDs and 1:30 of cut ins
isn’t this blurry photo great? |
I will say I was really proud of myself for getting the cut ins in this room painted while almost 39 weeks pregnant, but let me tell you, my body was not happy with me that night – I felt like my back was about to be split in two. It was my plan to roll the color on, but Chris came to the rescue the next day and did that for me – thank-my-pregnant-body-god. And of course, Zoe had to help again, duh
“I painting.” She’s very happy to help out π
Of course it took Chris about 15 minutes to get this room painted. Seriously. He’s a fucking speed demon with that roller. It probably helps that he was a painter in college or something…
He got the second coat up at one of my last days working at the A’s before “maternity leave” and let me say, I LOVE the color. Chris isn’t as in love with it as I am – he thinks it reads a little purple (which I can give him) and he doesn’t usually like dark colors as much as I do, but I LOVE a dark office and me and dark colors are having a love affair lately. And hey, he told me to just go pick it and he didn’t care, so, ya know π
What do you think? I love it! And it’s great to not have the electric green in here anymore. I’m even thinking it might be time to – GASP – hang something on the walls!

Great job…and wonderful to see Zoe and Merritt snuggling!

Yep, it looks kinda purple. But that is not a bad thing. I actually love grays that read purpley! I think you need to get some fresher whiter bulbs in there to truly appreciate the color. And, why are you covering your windows, you crazy woman?! PS – I'm so jealous of your arched bookcases. Damn you.

Thanks Deb!
Sara – we TOTALLY need better bulbs. Maybe I'll finally get to that because man it does look yellow in those photos. Also, I ALWAYS have to cover windows. I know – TERRIBLE. But our neighbors are so so so so close and I always hate having people be able to see in my house π I love our neighbors and they're wonderful, but it does give me the willies

Well, Iβd have to say that I love it even though I think darker tones do not go well with home offices as they tend to make the area a tad too cozy which might cause you to go past your deadlines if you work from home. Nevertheless, it still beats the bright green which could definitely cause hyperactivity in your kids. I also support Saraβs opinion on the removal of the yellow bulbs in order to liven the place up more.
