I’ve realized that “After” maybe isn’t the best word to use for this post (or posts like this in the future), “in progress” is more like it. The ROOM is done, but I still have things to put on the walls, I may rearrange some things a bit…it seems like nothing is really ever DONE in this house. But, unlike the kitchen, we didn’t move on once this room was functional, it’s the most done room in the house (and it’s really only not done because I want to do a few more unnecessary but desired decorating projects).
So here is the Before (right when we were about to start working on it)
Crappy door, disgusting popcorn ceilings, ugly pink/purple paint color, single pane windows that made the room deathly hot…it wasn’t super great.
So we started working on it…and it took a BIT longer than we anticipated (now 31 posts worth).
The first project was taking down the popcorn ceiling. It was gross, but it was relatively easy (although it did come with a now incredibly silly fight between Chris and I when he discovered one of my many OCD tendancies that I freak out when the cuffs of my sweatshirts or long sleeve shirts are wet. He made me write down a list of my strange OCD issues, I have 28. So far.)
Next we repaired and retextured the ceiling
And if you may remember, next came the saga of ripping out a corner of your house and rebuilding walls. It all started with that damn window…
(sorry for so many pictures of that headache, I just had to relive that disaster from the safety of my computer and the sanity of finished projects. It was a healthy closure)
After all of that came the easy parts of fixing the walls, choosing a paint color (which for me, can be difficult at times), painting a tree on the wall, spray painting, designing my shelving unit, and then moving all the stuff in.
It was a LONG and laboriuos process, but here it is! (and although I did vacuum, I didn’t clean off my work table because, frankly, I can’t stand those PERFECT after photos with nothing around, because really, that’s not how you use the room)
So what do you think??? I LOVE it. I am in here ALL THE TIME. It is so amazing to have a space in the house to get to make art. It is my frequent retreat and I am ETERNALLY greatful to Chris for allowing us to work on this project ahead of MUCH more pressing things like the bathroom, finishing the kitchen, laundry or foyer, working on the garage…the list goes on.
And now, because I have bored you with a horrendously long post with far too many pictures (and because I am almost late for work), I will share the details on the finished room with you tomorrow!
